Scientists urge teachers to shed the neuromyth of learning styles

Leading scientists have asserted that teaching children based on their individual learning style does not achieve better results and should, therefore, be replaced by a more evidence-based practice of teaching. Over 30 academics and researchers of neuroscience from around the world have voiced their concerns on this very matter through letters sent to The Guardian.
These letters have pointed out that such a teaching methodology is a waste of resources and is even damaging to students by making them inflexible to adapt to different ways of learning.
This group of researchers has opposed the theory that learning is more effective if students are taught using an individual approach- for example, if some students are identified as the ‘listening’ style learners, they are taught with storytelling and discussions as against asking them to undertake written exercises.
