Chandi Mandal, a 30 year old women, is a customer service executive at a business process outsourcing (BPO) company in Kolkata. She earns about Rs 9000 ($140) monthly. The situation for her today is very different from what it was about six months back. Today, she successfully manages all his household expenses.

In retrospect, things were very different just a few months back. Despite having studied at the college level, Chandi was unable to find a source of stable employment in her village in the Indian state of West Bengal. She also suffers from a congenital disability that prevents her from staying on her feet for more than a few minutes at a stretch.
