It’s indeed a sad Pi-incidence!
Today, being the Pi-day as well as Albert Einstein’ s birthday, this day now marks a dark day around the globe. Stephen Hawking passed away at the age of 76, fighting the monstrous motor neuron disease. While there have been many scientists out there, very few had managed to be the household name as Hawking.
It is interesting to note that Stephen Hawking was born January 8, 1942, on the 300th anniversary of Galileo’s death. He died today, March 14th, on the anniversary of Einstein’s birth.
Hawking had this amazing ability to simplify science to a layman. This is quite evident in his best-selling 1988 book “A Brief History of Time,” which sold millions of copies. During his lifetime, he has made some witty and bold statements about his perception on various subjects ranging from science to philosophy.
