Sudhir Ghodke in TOI’s in school newspaper –NIE

Sudhir Ghodke’s quote on ‘expectations from the Union Finance Budget’published on Page 1 nationally in TOI’s in school newspaper –NIE on March 16.

What Education Sector Expects from Union Budget 2012

With the Union Budget just round the corner, the expectations and hope are running high among the people in the Education Sector as any where else.

Social entrepreneur and education expert,Sudhir Ghodke - director of Educational Initiative is sharing his expectations from the upcoming Union Budget.

Sudhir Ghodke,

Director,Educational Initiatives

The debate on quality education has been brought to the fore based on a series of reports (PISA,EI’s Quality Education Study and ASER) which are clearly indicating that there needs to be more investments in quality improvement and monitoring (output based metrics) as compared to input based metrics like classrooms,mid-day meals and black-boards/ whiteboards.

In the K-12 sector, the focus has to clearly move towards empowering teachers to be more effective through regular training,pre-service course upgradation and on Principal and Leadership Training. Sufficient funds have to be allocated to attract, train and retain good teachers in the system. I am hoping for some good news for agencies engaged in Educational Research which are contributing to pedagogical improvements based on action research. The government should incentivise the setting up of Science of Learning Centers which can act as nodal points which converge the research needed to fundamentally improve K-12 education.

(Sudhir Ghodke is an IIM-A graduate. He is a social entrepreneur in the education sector for the last 15 years. Ghodke is the founding Director of Educational Initiatives,an Ahmedabad based education research company working in the field of assessments)
